Christmas NiGHTS Into Dreams: More Nostalgic Than Fruit Cake

| Comments (3)

Christmas time puts us all in the giving mood, which is why Sega made the ingenious decision to provide the sparse amount of Saturn-adopters with a holiday offering. Christmas NiGHTS Into Dreams is the quintessential example of a labor of love.  Sega decided to give something back to all of the fans and release the two-level expansion known by fans as Christmas NiGHTS. In Japan, the title was released with a special edition white-colored Sega Saturn, and in the US it was given away with magazines and select games.  These days, the game has developed into a sought-after treasure.

Christmas NiGHTS contains only two levels, but it is full of enough goodies to justify the relatively short amount of game play. The player can earn rewards such as music, artwork, and even the ability to play as Sonic.  In order to gain these prizes, the player must complete a level and then play a “match-up” type of game where they try and find two identical cards.  People may not be used to working for their presents, but in this case the end more than justifies the means.

Any game that is capable of associating itself with a specific holiday holds the power to become a tradition. Classic gamers thrive for nostalgia, and the nostalgia that goes with holidays is almost always the most powerful of all.  If you’re having trouble getting in the holiday spirit, then give Christmas NiGHTS Into Dreams a shot.  Happy holidays!

I plan to add pictures and stuff soon, I'm just currently experiencing some internet issues and I wanted to make this article somewhat timely.

I just got NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams for Wii and it reminded me why the original is one of my favorite games ever.

This reminds me I picked up the Import copy of Christmas NiGHTS in Japan for $1. I was super shocked to see it for so cheap.

Haven't played the Wii version yet but the PS2 remake is looking intresting also. Thanks for the article.

I have an import copy of Christmas NiGhts too! I haen't had a chance to play it yet though.

A lot of import versions of US games seem to be easily available for cheap compared to harder to come by US versions. Dang it.
