I saw the thread about the gamewave console, and the lil kid in me got excited thinking there might be something worth checking into, but i was grossly disappointed(whens dragons lair coming out for that thing anyway?).  So I was wondering, what is the most obscure and under the radar game console you guys own?  I'd like to own a Tapwave Zodiac(too expensive though) or a gp32, but those wouldnt even come close to my most unknown system

The Apple Bandai PiPPiN @World(2nd is the Toshiba SD-2300 Nuon)

So what kinda weird stuff have you guys run across?

Yeah, I do think that the GameWave console is likely something that a collector may be more interested just to HAVE it than to PLAY it.  If I was a traditional conservative Christian mom or dad, then maybe I might want to get one of these for my kids.

I haven't done any research on it at all, but...  I can think the one thing that would give me a smidge of interest is if somehow the hardware was not copyright protected and homebrew hobbists happen to take to the system and putting out homebrew releases for it, giving it unintentional collector interest - like what happened to the SEGA DreamCast.  I don't think anyone is likely to care enough about this system to go thru the trouble though.

If the GameWave starts showing up in retail clearance bins for almost nothing, (like what happened to the Hyperscan systems) then I might pick one up just to have one new pretty much just to have it.

In regards to obscure systems, John Hancock is the guy with that kind of stuff.  If I recall, I think he told me he has a complete Nuon game set.

I don't really have anything obscure in my collection.  I have stuff that is maybe kind of rare or harder to get, but nothing really obscure or unknown.

I've got a PC Engine, JVC X' Eye, Turbo Duo, Channel F as some of the more uncommon systems I have - but I wouldn't call any of those especially wierd or unknown.  I'm sort of more of a game player than a game collector, so I don't usually go too out of my way for oddball stuff.

Those Japanese systems have been on my list but I wanted to finish the american list first, I still need a Jaguar CD, Lynx, Turbo Express and Amiga CD32 to go and then i'll have every american release since the mid 80's i believe.

This has me wondering if there's a site dedicated to terrible video game consoles. I'm not saying any were mentioned here (I wouldn't really know). I've seen articles dedicated to it, but not an entire site.

Oh, I own those too.

Phillips CD-I is probably the most popular terrible game system, but I truely feel that the Memorex VIS outdid them tenfold.  Think of the Memorex VIS as an ugly CD-I system that lacks the actual video games the CD-I had, I think I've only seen one actual game for it and I own that one, it was Links 1994.  Everything else is almost like a really bad interactive story book, with little interactivity.  Sega Pico was more fun and more intuitive in its design than the VIS, and the VIS was about as huge as the LaserActive system, even though it was a basic cd system, bigger than any VCR player.

Outside of the VIS, I think anything ever made by Tiger turned to crap, the Game.com was a joke, and R-zone wasnt much better.  Tiger was and will be remembered as the King of crappy stocking stuffers.

I found an R-Zone for $5 at a Value Village on the way back from PAX this year with friends.  The battery is dead and I never got around to looking for a replacement yet.

I saw a Game.Com player w/ 10 or 11 games that had the manuals for them at  NWCGE in 2007 for $30.  I was asking a friend there who knows about the older stuff if it was worth picking up, and he said it wasn't that great.  Then, later on in the show he was telling me one of his "finds", a Game.Com player w/ games for only $30.  I was like, hey I'm the one who found that and asked you about it and you told me not to get it!!
