Without doubt, the best arcade game ever made that never found its way into gamers homes(w/out buying the whole unit) had to be the Konami 4player Simpsons Arcade Game from the early 1990's.  One of the local Pizza Huts in my area has one and I'm waiting for them to sell it cause I seriously will be loading that thing into a truck and hauling it away w/in an hour of it going on sale :D

Simpsons Arcade wasn't my favorite, but that one was a good one.  Like the style of  Konami 's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game, I liked TMNT better.  Both those games were quarter eaters.   Konami pretty much RULED the arcades in the 90's.

I looked up Simpsons Arcade, and looks like there was a couple ports of the game to PC and Commodore 64.

I was a Simpsons fan in the early 90's (like all kids were back then) and I got Bart Vs. the Space Mutants for  Nintendo when it was released.  Bart Vs. the Space Mutants for  Nintendo was a huge deal at the time because it was the first Simpsons game to come out on a home console.  Even though looking back, the game wasn't as fun or as good looking as the Simpsons arcade game.  Bart Vs. Space Mutants was unforgiving with the wonky jump physics, especially at the dinosaur boss in the museum level where is always as far as I could get and I died every time - because of a freaking invisible platform you needed to jump on that I almost never landed on.  It was one of those classic  Nintendo games where pretty much every specific enemy had a specific pattern, so after playing it you had to memorize the layout as you often had to stand in certain places and do certain things to get past enemies and often "cheat" the game.  That game had a lot of Nintendo Power Classified Information tips for it.

I really think the X-Men Arcade (4 Player Version) would have to be the best one. I have not played any X-Men game that truly brought that feeling of awesome that one did.

Another good  Konami 4 player from the 90's!  Pretty much Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and X-Men and all the other 4 player  Konami games all used the same formula that were so much fun to play.  And the graphic and sound quality on all of em were great.

That is so true. I was amazed at sounds on the X-Men arcade game. I wish I could find one of those somewhere cause I would buy it in an instant.

I remember the Xmen game, dont think it ever made it to console either.  But I do know both Turtles arcade games hit the NES and SNES as Turtles II: Arcade and Turtles III Turtles in Time.  the original nes turtles game was pure garbage and i still remember being disappointed when i put it in my nes the first time.

Makes me think that Konami should come out with a sampler of the 90's 4 player beat em up games from the arcades.  I'm sure people would buy that up.  Classic and arcade game compilations seem to be popular right now.  Its great to see all the arcade collections that  NeoGeo has been putting out for PS2 in 2008 - and budget titles at only $10 to $15 per!      Something like a Konami 4 player beat em up arcade compilation would make for an excellent game to put on for parties.  Great "pick up and play" kind of stuff.

Many of the old Arcade games, including the old sega and snk games(Final Fight and Streets of Rage come to mind) would be perfect for 4 player co-op on xbla and psn, I just wish the devs would realize theyre sitting on goldmines.

There are at least 100-200 games from the arcade, snes and genesis days that could be easily ported to xbox live and psn and do good, maybe more.

snk / NeoGeo has released most of the arcade versions of their games in late 2008 on compilations on the PS2 for $9.99 to $14.99 each.  (If you go to GameStop, they might charge higher than MSRP though is what I've heard)  http://www.snkplaymoreusa.com/ps2.php

The arcade version of Final Fight is on Capcom Classics Collection for PS2/Xbox.  Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection will have the sega Genesis versions of Streets of Rage I thru III covered for PS3/Xbox 360, to be released sometime from Spring to Winter, 2009.

Check out the list of titles on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (not including arcade version unlockables!!):

Don't forget Capcom's Alien vs Predator. I hated playing it with four people and getting stuck with one of the humans.

I'd much rather play the version of Aliens Vs Predator on the Atari Jaguar.  I think today is the day and age where great games that ended up on unnoticed consoles should be brought back to life.
