I thought it would be neat to make a topic where people could discuss just what kind of collector they are.

Personally I started off as the type who would track down, purchase, and keep any video game item I could get my hands on.  A little bit back, though, I decided to refine my collection a bit and part ways with the things I had no use for. Now I have what I consider to be the "classics" for each system I collect for, i.e. Sonic games etc. for the Genesis, any first-party Nintendo games or other good ones for the NES, N64, and SNES, etc.

I do miss owning a huge amount of games, but truthfully I'm pretty happy with all that I have. I still haunt thrift stores/pawn shops hunting for games, but I've become a little better about purchasing. I have to, though, considering the lack of money I have lately.

There are a few series that I collect and keep no matter what: Silent Hill, Kingdom Hearts, Katamari, and just about every Dreamcast game that isn't sports.

I know most people here are the kind that simply love to collect and amass as much as they can, which I think is awesome as well. I imagine I'll evolve into that kind of collector again which I'm better off financially.

I moved this to the Buying section since that's what this is about.

Interesting you mention "just about every  DreamCast game that isn't sports" since I thought DreamCast had the best sports games, compared to PS2, GameCube, and Xbox.  Virtua Tennis is one of the best DreamCast titles, and my favorite game for DreamCast is NBA2k - the best of the 2k series that I've played.  NBA2k1 and later got too simmy and not as fun to play.

I'm not really very much of a collector.  I'm more of a game player.  My collection needs work.

My reason for having as many games as I can find is similar to another user here who shares a dream of opening a museum dedicated to the history of interactive entertainment.

However, that is not why I started collecting games.  As some may note a story I told here, when I was a child I remember seeing Atari Jaguars up in the top shelving around the store, but they were $400, and our family was poor.  I wanted that game system from the day I saw it til I finally got a nice job, and now I own one.  I own a sega 'power trio' as well, specifically the frontload sega cd with genesis and 32x, because a friend had one and my family couldnt afford it.  I became a collector because it was the one thing I couldnt have before, that is now in my grasp, and I continue to collect because outside of a woman, and racing, gaming would be the next big 'love' of mine.

Virtua Tennis is great, that I'm willing to admit. Every now and then I don't mind playing a sports game with a few friends (preferably older and more simplistic), but generally they don't really hold my interest because I'm not such a fan of sports to begin with.
