I played Sonic Wings, a vertical scrolling war shmup on my SNES for a few minutes today.  Looking it up, looks like its called Aero Fighters in USA, not to be confused w/ Aero Blasters, a horizontal scrolling shmup which seems to be a much more fun game than this one - that's my opinion.

Sonic Wings reminds me of some other popular arcade shooter (well from the 90's or so, when there used to be video arcades all around here) but I can't think of the title.  Lots of cool arcade games I remember playing, but don't remember the title.

I have Aero Fighters 2 for my  NeoGeo MVS arcade console and it's pretty good. It's not a great shmup, but it's fun. I think the 2 sequels may have been developed by a different company though so this is probably fairly irrelevant :-p.
