Looks cool. It reminded me of Gauntlet Legends for  , which I loved, but I never investigated games of similar type. Any other games like this?

I think I didn't mention it in my review, but Heavenly Guardian is a part of the Pocky and Rocky series.  Starfish had to remove all references to the names in the game however because they didn't own the rights to it - owned by /Squaresoft Enix.  Also, it reminds me of Goemon's Adventure - a side scrolling character shooter for .

Heavenly guardian went entirely under my radar; Looks like it was a pretty low-scale release. I'll have to check it out though since you like it so much!

I'm still looking to get Pocky and Rocky 1 and 2 for SNES; those games look great. This game kinda reminds me of Zombies Ate My Neighbors / Ghoul Patrol. Some other good top-down character shooters like these are Mercs (arcade), Shock Troopers (), Guerilla War (arcade), Ninja Commando, and those are all I can think of right now. Shock Troopers and Mercs are probably my favorites.

I hear its sort of uncommon to find in stores, but if you do - its $14.99 to $19.99 retail.
