I don't know what the official sega term for the complete Genesis setup is, but Brian coined that term and it fits well. I have to say, I love having a complete sega Genesis, sega CD, and sega 32X combo. I've have just been playing that just non-stop lately. I finally found a way to hook up all of my consoles at once and be decent looking, and let's just say my Super Nintendo looks super pansy-ish compared to the massive sega Power Trio.
I know the peripherals were over-priced when they came out, and some developers just never used them. The games that truly took part in the 32X and CD experience really produced some great games. I would have to say playing Doom 32X has brought back some serious memories from back in the day. I loved that game then and still love it. It doesn't get much better than that. Anyone else had experience with those add-ons?

Can you post pics showing how to set them all up? I'm a bit of a moron when it comes to that.

Well, I'll do my best. I think cameras are the devil (READ: I hate having my picture taken.) so I don't own a digital camera. The closest I have is the camera on my company cell phone. I'll see what I can do with that though. What might be better is a website I remember seeing once that had some pictures to show the "proper" way to assemble the beastie.

I don't know what it's officially called either. I’ve been after a CD for a while so I can play Flashback and Heart of the Alien on it. I haven’t thought about getting a 32x yet, I’ll have to look into it and see if there are any good exclusives for it.

32X has good exclusives on it. Knuckles Chaotix, Kolibri. BlackThorne isn't an exclusive, but its on there too. The list isn't too long because there isn't there wasn't that many games that came out for 32X. A 32X unit isn't really that expensive anyways. You just have to make sure it includes the Genesis to 32X connector cable. You'll easily find the unit alone for sale for $10 or less, but its that A/V cable that'll be hard to find on its own if you don't get it with the system.

Kolibri does look cool, a humming bird shooter now that’s unique. Speaking of humming birds I’ve got one that hangs around my house, they’re very cool little birds and there are a lot more of them than you’d think, but until you learn what their call sounds like you’d never notice them.

That is so true. My buddy hooked up his 32X the other day and realized he didn't have the cable anymore. He finally found one but he ended up paying like $25 for it. He wasn't pleased.

Yeah, if you never played it - Kolibri is sort of a "different" kind of game. Its not a traditional shooter as you'd expect. Its more freeflowing, where you fly around in nature. More of like an "art" game you play just to experience. Reminds me of Ecco the Dolphin in the way the game is about the setting. The graphics are also very lovely, like a painting. That is so true. My buddy hooked up his 32X the other day and realized he didn't have the cable anymore. He finally found one but he ended up paying like $25 for it. He wasn't pleased.
Yes, the connector cable is harder to find than the 32X unit itself. That's how it often is with all the crazy proprietary cables for various lesser popular systems like the Virtual Boy and etc that aren't made anymore. Just like the Virtual Boy, the 32X just by itself is almost worthless if its just unit only. $25 for the 32X cable is pretty rich though...

I would love to get the full trio. I have a Genesis (thanks to Brian) and a CD (though I'm unsure if I have the right Genesis model for them to be compatible. Do I need a specific one?) but I've yet to find a 32x. It eludes me. But I would love to have one for both the games Brian mentioned. Knuckles Chaotix and Kolibri.

The 32X is compatible w/ all Genesis models. The CD (the add on models) is only compatible with the first and second models of Genesis. (the two most common Genesis models you will find) Chaotix is hard to find. I don't think I've been able to find that one yet.

The 32X will work on the model 3 Genesis? Cool I thought none of the add on stuff would work on the model 3. If I ever run across one, I'll have to try it out!
Back when I used to work at an EB in High School, they called the combo "the tower of power" or something like that (it was right around the time the Saturn came out.

32X doesnt work with the CDX, which as far as i know, is only the segacd and genesis in one, the X did not repreesnt the 32x. Also there was an attachment for playing master system games on the genesis that was only slightly smaller than a 32x, it also works on mk1 & mk2 genesis systems, unsure of the converter on mk3, pretty sure it also does not work on cdx. As far as the trio goes, you can just imagine how mine goes since i have 1st gen all around, dang thing is nearly 2 ft tall! Shining Force CD ftw!!! Snatcher a close 2nd.

Ah, thanks. I didn't know that about the CDX. The CDX is the only version of the Genesis or CD I don't have. The JVC X' Eye also is a CD and Genesis in one - I have a X' Eye and its great.
