LCD TVs the end of classic light gun games?

I was reading that all the light guns before the 360 and PS3 versions won’t work with all the new fangled non CRT (cathode ray tube) TVs even the Guncon 2. 

Is this true, and is there anyway around it?

I read somewhere that there was a group working on adapters like the PS3 GunCon3 has.
